Adventures in Documentary Shooting: Day #4

STILL DREAMING SHOOT DAY 4

Day 4 of our first shoot - the final chance to grab footage for our fundraising trailer. The day started with an email directive from Jilann -- “ Don’t forget to grab establishing shots of the home and also production stills”. Why do these things always fall to the bottom of the list?! We have so much to cover in a short time.

STILL DREAMING SHOOT DAY 3

Day three started with a get together of Demo, Paul and Harold, a journeyman actor and a lover of all things theater. They gathered in the main room of the Home to work on Shakespeare's 'All the World's a Stage' speech (from As You Like It). The speech deals with the seven ages of a person's life, the last of which is a second childhood, without teeth, eyes, taste or anything—'mere oblivion'. A number of residents at the home are in this final stage, but these three guys are not. They spoke with clarity about this final stage, and as they went about the room taking turns reading it, we heard three remarkably different interpretations on the text.

Adventures in Documentary Shooting: Day #2

STILL DREAMING SHOOT DAY 2

We began Day 2 with another interview, this time with Doris, who is a recognizable actor, having been in 'Tootsie' (one of the best comedies ever), as well as a lot of TV. Doris lives in the assisted living section of the home, which means she can come and go as she pleases. She still attends auditions in NYC, and keeps an active social calendar with lunch dates and so forth. She is living at the home because her husband is in poor health, and needs constant attention. The two of them gave up their brownstone on the Upper East Side, and moved to the Home so he could get the care he needs, and she could be near him. Talk about a story of love, devotion and courage. Her interview was great as she talked about her love of acting, her standards of excellence for her art, and what she gets from her creativity.

Circle of Stories, the DVD

Great news! Circle of Stories will have its live action premiere on October 10th, 2010 in San Francisco as a part of the Bioneers Moving Images Festival. Its been a long and winding road to get to this version of the project, full of life's road blocks and rest stops. But the challenges of post (and kids, jobs, film projects—Life!) never diminishes the triumph of getting a project done. And seen.
